Obituary of Permelle Lucas Mathias

LEXINGTON-Services for Permelle Lucas Mathias, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, officiated by The Reverend Eric Friedrichs and The Reverend Ruben Olawksy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Mathias, David Marsh, Greg Summers, John Brown, Bryan Lucas and Chris Catoe. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 3011 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169 or the charity of one's choice. Mrs. Mathias, widow of Hampton John Mathias, died Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Edmund, SC, on February 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Ida Berry Lucas. She was a member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church where she had served on the Social Ministry Committee and the Altar Guild. She was a homemaker, had worked as a sewing room operator and later retired from the Brookland-Cayce School System. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 79 and the Oak Grove Civic Club. Surviving are her son, Harvey (Jan) Mathias of Lexington; daughter, Edna Jean (Arden) Hallman of Leesville; granddaughter, Erin (Scott) Thomas; step-granddaughter, Kristina (Chris) Catoe; and a great-granddaughter, Alana Thomas.
