Obituary of Janet Deyton Scruggs

WEST COLUMBIA—Janet Deyton Scruggs, 80, was called to her Heavenly home on Friday, February 7, 2014 after a month-long illness. Born February 27, 1933 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William M. and MaeBell Gaynor. Janet was educated in Rock Hill schools. She was a nurse, and received her training at the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Eastern Star New Brookland Chapter #104. She was a member of Springdale Baptist Church, West Columbia. The Reverend Gary Farmer will officiate at the celebration of her life which will be held at Springdale Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Grand View Cemetery, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 will be assisting the family. Janet is survived by her son, Jerry Deyton of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Robert Gravley, Roswell, GA; sisters, Pansy Gaynor of Columbia, Bernice Mackey (Howard) of Blackstock, SC and Carol Lawings of Rock Hill; sister-in-law, Lorraine Gaynor of Rock Hill; three granddaughters, Taylor, Chelsea and Raegan Gravley of Roswell, GA; aunt, Katie Howell of Rock Hill and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands, Cecil Deyton and Vernon Scruggs, her parents and a brother, William Gaynor, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Springdale Baptist Church, 357 Wattling Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
