Obituary of Eleanor Mundy

LEXINGTON—Funeral services for Eleanor Cochran Mundy, 89, of Lexington, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Lexington Baptist Church. Pastor Jerry Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville, SC. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sessions Sunday School Class. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Baptist Church, 308 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Mrs. Mundy, beloved wife of the late Luther Harrison Mundy, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Alfred Cochran and Leila Ellis Cochran. She was a member of Lexington Baptist Church. Eleanor retired in 1984 as one of the original school nurses in Lexington School District One, trained at Greenville General Hospital in 1941 and worked at the VA Hospital. Eleanor loved all her family and church friends, but most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Surviving are her daughters, Alfreida Mathias (Fred) and Beth Gross (Mark) all of Lexington; grandchildren, Mandy Mathias Smith (Jay), Michael Mathias (Madelyn), Kimberly Gross Freeman (Jerry) and Christie Gross all of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Mabry and Jackson Smith, Harrison, Campbell and Samuel Mathias, Maddie and Hudson Freeman; sister, Gladys Cochran of Asheville, NC. She was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Gaddis, Christine Anderson and Margaret Mann; brothers, Ellis Cochran and Harry Cochran.
