Obituary of Melville Wesley Holland

Melville Wesley Holland, III, 67 of Hopkins, entered into rest February 17, 2014 at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center. Born April 2, 1946 in New Orleans, LA he was a son of the late Melville, Jr., and Willie Evelyn (Tipton) Holland. A veteran of the military, Mr. Holland actively served during Vietnam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Hope Holland. Lovingly known as Papaw to his grandchildren, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carole S. Holland; five children, Francis Gamble, Renee Holland, Alison Sallings (Daniel), Mark Holland and Daniel Holland (Christy); three brothers, Joe, Larry and David Holland; four sisters, Mary Colbert, Pam Moore, Debbie Rich and Tammy MacKenzie; eight grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:30 A.M., in Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC 29209. Interment will follow immediately in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the funeral home.
