Obituary of Wayne W. Whitmire

LEXINGTON—Funeral services for Wayne W. Whitmire, Jr., 70, of Lexington, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at St. Andrews Evangelical Church, 2609 Seminole Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Pastor Don Burnett, Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Evangelical Church Missions Fund, 2609 Seminole Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Mr. Whitmire, husband of 34 years to Christine M. Whitmire, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Born in Slater, he was a son of the late Wayne W. Whitmire and Eva Estelle Poole Whitmire. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Wayne enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo. He retired as a Senior Electronics Technician at Ansaldo STS. Surviving in addition to his wife, Christine Whitmire of Lexington; son, Wayne W. "Trey" Whitmire, III (Brittany) of Columbia; sister, Mary Frances McCall (Ronnie) of Travelers Rest; brother, Ronald Whitmire (Dorothy) of Fort Mill; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents Russell and Pauline Whitmire.
