Obituary of Zain Aly Sadrudin Valimohamed

COLUMBIA—Zain Aly Valimohamed, 13, of Columbia, died Saturday, February 22, 2014. Born in Columbia, he was a beloved son of Shaffin and Marina Valimohamed. Zain was an eighth-grader at Timmerman School, where he was an excellent student, a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and a member of the track team. He was also a member of the Jamath Kahna Mosque of the Ismaili faith in Spartanburg, SC. Zain was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include his parents, Shaffin and Marina; his brother, Arslan Valimohamed; paternal grandmother, Roshan Valimohamed all of Columbia; maternal grandparents, Fida Aly and Meher Bano of Ohsikhandas, Pakistan; aunt and uncle, Captain (USN) Joseph and Shanie Grelish of Honolulu, HI; and many more aunts and uncles around the world. Zain was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Sadrudin Valimohamed; and paternal uncle, Rahim Valimohamed. Zain was adored by Shaffin and Marina and loved by the many people in his life. He was a close friend to his classmates in Mr. Braciszewski's class at Timmerman School. He was also a leader among his fellow Boy Scouts who elected him as the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop #2. Services for Zain Aly Valimohamed will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
