Obituary of Edwin Moore

Columbia--Edwin Donald Moore, Sr., husband of the late Pauline Lipford Moore, and son of the Late John Wesley Moore and Frances Thompson Moore died on March 3, 2014. Born on November 11, 1928 in Toombs County Georgia, he graduated high school from the Brewton Parker Institute and served two terms in the U. S. Marine Corp. He pursued his degree in psychology over the course of nine years while working full time and raising a family, attending Furman University and graduating from Columbia College in 1965. He began his career in law enforcement as deputy sheriff of Chester County, moving to the SC Department of Corrections where he served as a Juvenile Parole Counselor and Assistant Director of the Juvenile Parole Department. Upon moving to the Youthful Offender Division, he served as Coordinator of Parole and Aftercare and then Chief of Youthful Offender Services. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he taught adult and children's Sunday school and served as deacon, elder, and superintendent of Sunday school. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed taking up new sports and adventures across his life: fishing, golfing, biking, canoeing, hunting and hiking. He was a Master Gardener and a member of Toastmasters. Edwin is survived by his children, Christy Moore Clonts and son-in-law Glenn Charles Clonts of Columbia and Edwin Donald (Dino) Moore, Jr. and daughter-in-law Wanda Gantt Moore of Little Mountain; grandchildren Jennie Clonts Burns (Jay), Forrest Charlton Clonts (Elizabeth), and Katie Nicole Moore, and great grand-daughter Caroline Eloise Clonts. He is predeceased by his brothers, John Wesley Moore, Dexter Conrad Moore, Sr. and his sister Frances Moore Roberts. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Thursday, March 6, 2014 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Mark Bredholdt officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park from 1:00 until 1:45 P.M.
