Obituary of Mildred Hughes Goins

WEST COLUMBIA—Mildred Hughes Goins, 99 of Agape Nursing Home on Leaphart Road in West Columbia, formerly of Lafayette Avenue in Cayce, died Monday, March 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Dr. Tommy Pillow will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral Home. Mrs. Goins was born on December 7, 1914 in Columbia, the daughter of the late Ollin and Claudia Hughes. She was a member of State Street Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Mrs. Goins was the beloved wife of 65 years to the late Herman L. Goins. She was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include daughters, Gayle G. Byrd and husband, Harold of West Columbia, Wray G. Gregory and husband, Frank of Spartanburg; grandsons, Mark Gregory and wife, Cindy of Spartanburg, Hal Byrd of Charlotte; granddaughters, Paige Shill and husband Clay of Spartanburg, Holly B. Morales and husband Robert of Atlanta, Nan B. Rutland and husband, Rodney of Anderson and thirteen great-grandchildren.
