Obituary of E Lois A. Gaskins

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for E Lois Gaskins, 96, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church of West Columbia, 400 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Dr. William H. "Bill" Drees will officiate. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 will be assisting the family. Mrs. Gaskins, beloved wife of 73 years to John B. Gaskins II, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of the late Adam Charlie McElveen and Lowney Lee Cook McElveen. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia, where she served in numerous capacities from nursery to the homebound group. Mrs. Gaskins was a Girl Scout Leader for B.C. #1 and she also dealt in the Antique Business with her husband, John. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. Surviving in addition to her husband, John B. Gaskins II; son, John B. Gaskins III; daughter, Melinda Edens Williams and her husband, Phillip; grandson, Jason Williams; as well as a number of loved nieces and nephews; and the family cats, Bobo, Bootsie, Misty and Blackie.
