Obituary of Tony Daniel Wilcox

LEXINGTON-Tony Daniel Wilcox was born March 14th, 1950, to George and Estella Wilcox of Odessa, TX. At an early age, he moved to Rochelle, IL, where he graduated from Rochelle High School as a standout in wrestling, football and art. He attended Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston, IL. He worked in the refrigeration field for many years, as a mechanic, a teacher, an engineer and a sales manager. An advocate of catch and release, he was active in his fishing club and always had a humorous way of describing his day, whether he caught fish, or as many suspected may have been the case, did not. He was nearing retirement after more than 35 years with Scotsman Ice Systems when he was suddenly called home by his maker. Tony passed in his sleep Sunday morning, quietly leaving behind his wife, Mary, his children Scherry Griffith, Spencer Wilcox, and Joshua Wilcox, and his grandchildren Autumn Craig, Kenlee Griffith, Lindsay Wilcox, Kaedan Wilcox, Kyle Wilcox, Emery Wilcox, Konnor Wilcox, and Robbie Wilcox who will miss him terribly, and the remaining population of bass in Lake Murray, who will not. The family asks that friends, family, and others join them to celebrate Tony's life, and tell fish stories at 1:00 p.m. for visitation, with a memorial service to begin promptly at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073, with graveside service to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Ste. 301, Cayce, SC 29033 or to The Bass Federation of SC, PO Box 2616, Lexington, SC 29071.
