Obituary of Richard Geiger Pound

WEST COLUMBIA-Funeral service for Richard Geiger Pound, 90, of West Columbia, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Willow Ridge Church, 104 Sycamore Tree Road, Lexington, SC 29073.The Reverend's Bill Howard, Beau Bradberry and Gary Farmer will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be the "Pounds of Love" Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Willow Ridge Church Building Fund. Mr. Pound went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 24, 2014. Born on December 23, 1923 in Gaston, SC, he was a son of the late Magnice Lorenza and Lulu Sarah Walsh Pound. He was a founding and charter member of Willow Ridge Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He retired from Columbia Metro Airport and was a former employee of WIS-Radio/TV. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a cherished friend to many. He loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. Our family would like to thank family and friends for their kindness during Richard's illness and a special thanks to his caregiver, Ann Robinson, and Hospice of Tri-County. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Vivian Williams Pound; daughter, Bonnie Pound Gunter (Benny) of Gaston; sons, Richard Thomas Pound (Nita) of St. Matthews and Kenneth Wayne Pound (Marie) of Cayce; five grandchildren, Troy Pound (Tracy), Kris Pound (Brooke), Mechelle Moody (James), Ginger Moore (Brad) and Shawn Pound (Shelly); and fifteen special great-grandchildren; and one loving brother, Marvin L. Pound (Mary) of Gaston. He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 is handling the arrangements.
