Obituary of Malene Waters Herring

WEST COLUMBIA-Funeral service for Malene Waters Herring, 89, of Lexington will be held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Dr. Kimmett Lott will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11-12:30 prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to SC Special Olympics, 1276 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29202. Mrs. Herring passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014. Born June 29, 1924 in Quitman, GA, she was the daughter of the late Willie Bernaze Waters and Willie Mae Mills Waters. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of Saluda River Baptist Church. She retired from Fort Jackson Post Headquarters. Mrs. Herring married Herbert Charles Herring, Sr. November 15, 1947 and he passed away in 1960. Surviving are her children, Chuck Herring (Kathye) and Debra Ellenburg (Robin); grandchildren, Brian Herring (Stephanie), Jason Herring, Alex Ellenburg and Taylor Ellenburg; sister, Norma Linn; and brothers, Otis Waters, and Thurman Waters (Betty). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert Charles Herring, Sr. and brother, Felton Waters.
