Obituary of Lois Pearson Smith

COLUMBIA-A graveside service celebrating the life of Lois Pearson Smith, 94, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens with Reverend Walter Ballenger officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua W. Ramsden, Ronald Bradley Smith, Nathan Elliot Smith, and Clyde Eugene Long. The family has entrusted Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 with the arrangements. Mrs. Smith passed away in Columbia, SC on Friday, May 9, 2014. She was born on July 23, 1919, in Spartanburg, SC to Dodie Trail Pearson and Clyde Simpson Pearson. She attended Spartanburg City Schools and graduated Lander College in 1940. She taught school in Lockhart, Clinton, Greenville, and Richland School District 1 (John P. Thomas) where she retired in 1982. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Wade Hampton Chapter 29 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an avid reader, enjoyed the Gamecocks and cared for animals, especially her cat, Suzy. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Samuel Neely Smith; her parents, and two sisters, Lenna Lee Pearson and Mary Louise Long, and a brother, Cecil Trail Pearson. Surviving are her loving family; a daughter, Sylvia Dianne Smith; two sons, Ronald Pearson Smith (Pam) and Stanley Erwin Smith (Gloria); two grandchildren, Ronald Bradley Smith (Michele) and Nathan Elliot Smith and one great-grandson, Liam Pearson Smith.
