Obituary of Donald Henry Laag

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Donald H. Laag, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Kennerly Road, Irmo, SC 29063. Reverend Jason Zahn will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 will be assisting the family. Mr. Laag passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Born in Kokomo, Indiana, he was a son of the late William Henry Laag and Esther Polman Laag. Donald was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War and an area resident since 1973. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and was a member of the Choir. He was a member of the Lions Club and an avid fisherman and gardener. Donald retired after 50 years of service from EMR Tool and Die Company. He was a loving grandfather. Surviving are his daughters, Diane Corley (Billy) and Cindy Hamiter (the late, Mack); son, Kyle William Laag (Lynn) all of Lexington; grandchildren, Kayla Lipinski (Mark), Hunter Laag, David Hamiter (Carrie), Jennifer Harris, Lydia Hamiter and Austin Hamiter; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Harris and Cian Hamiter. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret Metcalf Laag. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Kennerly Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
