Obituary of Lewis D. Hinson

A private graveside service celebrating the life of Lewis D. "L.D." Hinson, Jr., 81, of Horrell Hill will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7239 Patterson Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or Tri-County Hospice, 2560 Tahoe Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 in LD's memory. The family has entrusted Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 with the final arrangements. Affectionately called "L.D." by his family and friends, he departed this earthly life on Friday evening, May 23, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was born in Eastover, SC to Lewis D. Hinson, Sr. and Jessie Wilson Hinson. "L.D." was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and he was also a veteran of the United States Army. After graduating from high school, "L.D." was on his way to becoming a professional baseball player before being drafted into the United States Army. He was an avid NASCAR fan, baseball fan, and he enjoyed deer hunting. "L.D." was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Sue Campbell. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Lou Lindler Hinson; his sons, Lewis Randal Hinson (Irene) and Douglas Gregory Hinson (Alice); his sisters, Inez Hinson, Margaret Grice, and Cynthia Frost (Bill); his brothers, Douglas R. Hinson (Barbara) and Robert L. Hinson (Linda); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
