Obituary of Nelda Derrick Mefford

COLUMBIA—Nelda Derrick Mefford, 81, of Columbia, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Providence Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Leesville, SC, she was a daughter of the late David Jesse Derrick and Nina Lee Goff Derrick. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. Nelda retired after 38 years as a Payroll Supervisor for the State Department of Mental Health. Surviving are her sons, David O. Mefford (Philis) of Columbia, SC, Michael Anthony Mefford (Debra) of Lexington and Timothy Craig Mefford (Tracie) of Fort Motte, SC; daughter-in-law, Mary Mefford of Lexington; siblings, Beatrice Olson of Vancouver, WA and Joe Sammy Derrick of Leesville, SC; grandchildren, Robert Arnold, Adam Mefford (Amy), Jesse Mefford, Jonathan Mefford, Corey Mefford, Brandon Mefford, Donna Hamrick (Josh) and Joni Austin (Clarence). Those who preceded her in death, late husband, Ollie Mefford, son, Brian Keith Mefford, brothers, Eddie Derrick and Welton Derrick, sisters, Georgia Matthews, Vineta Minick, Mavis Stewart and Margie Oxner. Funeral services for Nelda Derrick Mefford will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1005 Asbury Road, Columbia, SC 29209 officiated by Reverend Stephen M. McCormick. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Arnold, Adam Mefford, Jesse Mefford, Jonathan Mefford, Corey Mefford and Brandon Mefford. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 will be assisting the family.
