Obituary of William Thomas Cave

LEXINGTON-Funeral services for William Thomas "Tommy" Cave, 73, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Lexington Baptist Church, 308 E. Main Street, Lexington. Burial will follow in Lexington Memorial Cemetery, Highway #1 in Lexington. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Mike Turner, Reverend Dan Williams and Reverend Jerry Freeman. Active Pallbearers will be Tom Boozer, George Martin, Gyles Hall, Doug Kinder, Larry James and Nick McNair. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Prospectors Sunday School Class. The family will greet friends from 6-8pm Saturday at Lexington Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Lexington Baptist Church, 308 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072, or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648. Mr. Cave passed away on June 5, 2014. Born in Walterboro, SC, he was a son of the late B.B. and Dorothy Moody Cave. He was a member and Deacon of Lexington Baptist Church. He was a Godly man, loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He had a servant's heart and helped many people in a humble manner. His greatest achievement was his family. Tommy was a master gardener, wood worker and loved the outdoors. He also took great pleasure in his grandchildren Kat and Catherine. Tommy worked for the S.C. Department of Corrections, retiring in 1994 with 32 years of service. In 1994 he went to work with Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens, part-time, until December 2005. Surviving are his loving wife, Joan Smith Cave; daughter, Amy Cave Williams (Jeff); son, W.T. "Tom" Cave, Jr. (Tanja); grandchildren, Katrina "Kat" Thompson and Catherine Elizabeth Cave; brother, B.M. Cave (Beverly) all of Lexington. Sisters-in-law, Nevie Smith of Newberry; Dianne Fergusson of Oxford, MS; and Vera Tucker (Otis) of Castle Hayne, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.
