Obituary of Mae C. Faulkenberry

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mae C. Faulkenberry, 80, of Columbia, SC will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Terry Cagle officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be sent to www.thompsonsfuneral.com. Ms. Faulkenberry departed this earthly life on Friday, June 6, 2014. She was born in Kershaw, SC to the late Carl Craig and Mattie Phillips Craig. Mae was married to Howard Lee Faulkenberry for 25 years. Mae later received her nursing degree in June of 1978. She provided loving care and devotion to our nation's veterans at the Dorn VA Medical Center. An avid gardener, she was fond of her roses, and her backyard was just as beautiful as her soul. She was a faithful and strong woman, who reflected God's light brightly and clearly on the people whose lives she touched. Words cannot express how much she meant to her family and friends and how dearly she will be missed. To the many that shared in her unconditional love, they can smile in knowing that her imprint on this world will not fade, her incredible support and love continuing to live on through the many memories. She was also a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church. Those left to cherish her precious memories are her daughters, Debbie Gamble (Tony) and Cathy Spires (Jimmy); her sons, Ken Faulkenberry and Mark A. Faulkenberry (Rhonda); a brother, Carl Edward Craig (Judy); eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren whom lovingly called her "GiGi"; a host of other loving relative and friends that will miss her dearly.
