Obituary of Cyrus Donald Johnston

A funeral service celebrating the life of Cyrus Donald Johnston, 76, of Columbia will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Joshua Baulding officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Joe McDaniel, Kevin McDaniel, Kyle McDaniel, Charlton Smith, Donnie Clarke, and Jeremiah Davis will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. "Don" as he was affectionately called by family and friends departed this earthly life on Monday, June 9, 2014. He was born in Mooresville, NC to Cyrus Robert Johnston, Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Donald Johnston. "Don" graduated Magna Cum Laude from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. He retired from the Claims Division at Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Company and he was also a member of Seacoast Church, Irmo. "Don" was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Valerie Jean Broadwell Johnston. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Linda Erskine Johnston; his daughter, Sandra Ann Johnston Robinson (Scott); his son, Robert Donald "Donnie" Johnston; a granddaughter, Isabelle Lee Robinson; his step-children, Deanna McDaniel (Joe), Dianna Smith (Scott), and Wes Harwell (Lisa); four step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
