Obituary of Elton D. McKinney

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Mrs. Elton Dower McKinney, 82, of West Columbia, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. The Reverend Steve Allen will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. McKinney, beloved wife of 35 years to the late Bobby Calhoun McKinney, affectionately known as "Nanny", passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Dower and Berdie Hughes Dower. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of Northside Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She employed at J. B. White for over 25 years. Surviving are her daughter, Debbie McKinney Putnam (Steve) of West Columbia; son, Danny Lee McKinney (Sherry) of West Columbia; sister, Bobbie Jean Hopkins (Harold) of Ft. Pierce, FL; three grandchildren, Danny Bryan McKinney (Alexis), Jennifer McKinney Pittman and Christopher Steven Putnam; three great-grandchildren, Colt Gamble McKinney, Savanna Lynn Pittman and Caroline Grace Pittman. She was survived by numerous niece and nephews whom she also loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Sonny Dower and a sister, Margaret Bagwell.
