Obituary of Dorothea Long White

WEST COLUMBIA—A funeral service for Dorothea Long White, 88, of West Columbia, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2920 Pella Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29170. Pastor Vance Fossum will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mrs. White, beloved wife of the late Raymond M. White, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Born in Gilbert, SC on November 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Elon Long and Olie Taylor Long. Dorothea was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was blessed to be a founding member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for 49 years. For over 30 years, she was an employee of Thompson Dental and Patterson Dental Companies. In her retirement years, she enjoyed reading, gardening and exercising. Most importantly, she was saved by faith through the Grace of God. She will be dearly remembered and missed. Surviving are her children, Christine Sox, Alice Jennings (David), Becky Martin (Larry), Jeff White (Judy), Dennis White (Lisa) and Andy White; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Steve White.
