Obituary of Carolyn Stewart Bell

COLUMBIA-Carolyn Stewart Bell died peacefully at home with family on Friday, June 20, 2014. She was born December 24, 1930 in Columbia but was reared in Williamsburg County. She was the daughter of the late F. Kelly Stewart and the late Metter Goude Stewart. She went to Hebron School and Winthrop College. She was employed for several years by Niggel Brothers Tile Company. She had a great love of the theater and volunteered for many years at both Workshop and Town Theaters. Music was another love. She taught herself to play the piano at an early age and spent many happy hours with the guitar in later years. She had a passion for dance - tap especially - and was a line dance teacher for many years. She was a water colorist and belonged to both Trenholm Artist and Log Cabin Artist Guilds. She also belonged to a little-known group making rosary beads for the soldiers at Fort Jackson. She was married to the late Donald P. Cantey and the late Frank D. Bell, III and was proceeded in death by her brother, David F. Stewart of Orlando, FL and her step-mother, Lois M. Stewart of Kingstree, SC. She is survived by her brother, Frontis K. Stewart (Bonnie) of Kingstree, and sisters, Lorice Jordan (Hart) of Fort Valley, GA and Elaine Kimmery of Lexington, SC. Her surviving children are Donald P. Cantey, Jr. of Eastover, SC, Joyce Chesney of Taylors, SC, Debra Hudson (John) of Columbia, SC, and Mark D. Cantey of Columbia, SC, step-son Frank D. Bell, IV of Eastover, SC, step-daughters Laura Britt (Jeff) of Sanford, NC, and Ann Bell Owens of Columbia, SC. She had seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and two beloved pets, Bingo and Baylee. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23rd, at The Church of the Cross, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the burial. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 will be handling the arrangements.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Cross, 7244 Patterson Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of Tri-County for their many services and care.
