Obituary of Joseph Henry Howell

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Joseph "Joey" Henry Howell, Jr., 63, of West Columbia, will be held at 12 noon Friday, July 11, 2014 at Abundant Life Assembly Church, 105 Lincoln Street, West Columbia, SC 29170. Pastor Jerry Flowers and Pastor Doyle Roberts will officiate. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Joey passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Joseph Henry Howell and Sylvia Louise Lovett Howell. A United States Army veteran, he served his country while touring in Korea. Joey enjoyed fishing, golf and watching Western-themed movies. He was loved, and will be dearly missed. Surviving are his children, Tina Gartman (Dwayne) of Lexington, Tara Clare (Joe) of West Columbia, Joseph D. Howell of West Columbia and Brittany Cooper (Lenny) of Leesville; six grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers. Joey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
