Obituary of Donald L. Parnell

Donald Levin Parnell, Sr., 73, of West Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, July 22, 2014 at Lexington Medical Center. Born January 8, 1941 in Darlington, SC he was a son of the late Preston G. and Lois (Player) Parnell. Mr. Parnell was an engineer with Norfolk Southern Railway, Piedmont Division, and had worked for them for more than 29 years. He was a Master Mason and adored animals, especially his nine "babies." Mr. Parnell was an avid fisherman, Clemson football fan and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. He was proud of them all. In addition to his parents, Mr. Parnell was preceded in death by his sons, Jerry Dorsey, Donald L. Parnell, Jr. and Preston Boyd Parnell; and brothers, Kenneth and William "Billy" Parnell. He is survived by his wife of more than 42 years, Lettie D. Parnell; brother, Larry Parnell; sons, Randy (Angie) Cooper, Mitchell (Pati) Cooper and Donald P. (Angel) Parnell; daughter-in-law, Kelly Parnell; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29072, with Reverend Michael Parnell officiating. Interment will follow in Olympia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pets Inc., 300 Orchard Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170.
