Obituary of Dale Mastro-Hardee

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Dale Mastro , 73 will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Pastor Ray Toussaint will officiate. Dale moved into a higher gallery on July 23, 2014. Born in Red Springs, NC, she was a daughter of the late Arlie and Tony Beck Hancock. Dale was a painter of life and light. She devoted over thirty years of her life to her art, and was constantly motivated by the pure pleasure of the process: the idea, the creation and the outcome. She received her formal art training in the Hudson Valley, NY, and for the next three decades, she sought out the prominent art teachers in upstate New York for portraiture, animal and landscape instruction. Her many instructors included the late John Gould and Susan Goetz Schneider. She was also trained at the Woodstock School of Art, the Bethlehem Art School and the Art Students League of New York. Dale also taught classes at Midlands Technical College, and at the Dale Mastro School of Art, and taught private lessons in her studio. A very generous and giving woman, Dale loved children and never met a stranger. She enjoyed conversing on a wide variety of subjects, and possessed a wonderful sense of fun and humor. Dale is survived by the husband of her heart, Ray Hardee; her two daughters, Stephanie Trautmann of Washingtonville, NY, Aubrea Mastro (Robert Bardsley) of Wallkill, NY; grandchildren, Shawanna and Brandon Trautmann of Washingtonville, NY; sisters Gail Woodcox of Red Springs, NC, and Susie Hancock Chappell of Cartersville, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 3223 Sunset Blvd. Ste 100, West Columbia, SC 29169, or Agape Hospice Foundation, Attn: Lisa Livingston, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 .
