Obituary of Fred Joseph Brandt U.S. Army

A graveside service for CW4 Fred Joseph Brandt, U.S. Army (Ret.) 98, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Pastor Mark Bredholt will officiate. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29201. Mr. Brandt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Friday, July 25, 2014. He was born in Trenton, NJ to the late Harry J. and Annie L. Roach Brandt. Fred joined the Army in 1942 and served his country honorably in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Fred married his wife, Ann, on July 11, 1944 in London, England. He retired in 1977 as a CW4 and was one of our Nation's Greatest Generation. Fred, who was truly a gentleman, leaves a legacy of love, faithfulness and loyalty and will be missed by the many lives he touched in his 98 years of life. He is survived by his children; Maureen Campbell (Arthur) of Fayetteville, NC, Deborah Henderson (Eber) of Lugoff, Pamela Brandt of Columbia, Denise Haley of Elgin, Lisa Brandt-Pruitt of Columbia, Fred J. Brandt, Jr. of West Columbia , Norma Ridgeway (Cliff) of Bridgeton, NJ; one (1) sister, Nora Kane of Yardley, PA; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mr. Brandt was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy "Ann" Lewis Brandt, and a beloved grandson, Jason Michael Campbell.
