Obituary of Carolyn Gallagher Dobbs Commins

Carolyn D. Commins Columbia - Carolyn (Gallagher) Dobbs Commins, 71, of Columbia entered into rest, Sunday, August 3, 2014 at her home. Born Tuesday, January 12, 1943 in Kansas City, MO, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Arsella (Kelly) Gallagher. A respiratory therapist at Palmetto Health Richland, Mrs. Commins retired after more than 20 years of service. She especially enjoyed sewing, both for her family as well as competitively, entering into numerous events at the SC State Fair, where she received a number of First and Second Place ribbons. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Commins was preceded in death by her first husband, James Edward Dobbs, III; her second husband, Melvin St. John Commins; as well as three brothers. She is survived by her children, Nancy Dobbs Wilk, James Edward, IV, David "Skully", Dale Marie and Matthew Glen Dobbs; step-children, Christine Hunter Commins and Capt. John Everington Commins, (USAF Ret.); sisters, Mary Ellen Delk, Arsella C. Gallagher, Kathy Towle and Patty Bauer; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209.
