Obituary of Rupert Badger Gasque

COLUMBIA - R. Badger Gasque, Jr. of 7412 Coachmaker Road passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was born October 31, 1927 in Marion, SC to the late Martha Ellen Newton and Rupert Badger Gasque. Badger graduated from Clemson University in 1949 with a degree in architecture and worked for many years with the firms of Lyles, Bissette, Carlisle & Wolff and Bultman, Coulter, Gasque & Associates. He retired as the corporate architect for SCE&G. He was the project architect for buildings including the USC Coliseum, the downtown U.S. Post Office, the USC Humanities Center and S.C. Law Enforcement Center. Badger was a veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He had been a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church since 1956. Badger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia "Pat" Murphy Gasque; his daughters, Rene' Gasque Sutton and her husband, Kenneth, and Michele Gasque Thornley; son, Rupert B. "Buddy" Gasque, III; granddaughters, Aimee Kathleen Sutton, Alexis Brooke Whittemore and Ashley Elaine Whittemore; grandsons, Matthew Gasque Sutton and Brantley Christopher Gasque. Other survivors include his sister, Shirley Gasque Yonce and her husband, Larry. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, William Alfred Gasque and Emmie Atkinson Gasque. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family.
