Obituary of Melba Cockrell Amick

A funeral service for Melba Cockrell Amick, 81, of Lexington, will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Reverend Charles Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC 292170. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Amick was born in Batesburg to the late Broadus Carlton and Bertha Reynolds Cockrell. She was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She cared for others in many acts of kindness. She was a sports enthusiast, especially old school wrestling on Saturday afternoons and an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She enjoyed doing crafts, and perfected the art of making pinestraw baskets. She is survived by her sons, Stephen Ray Amick, (Alexa), Larry Bruce Amick; daughter, Karen Amick Lee (Bunky), and son, Frank Carlton Amick (Pam). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and her sister, Ruth Risinger. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Bennie, Louis, Chester, LaVonne and Pete; 2 sisters, Iris and Geraldine; and a daughter-in law, Sara Crouch Amick. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Lexington Extended Care (LEC) for nine years of loving care, and Agape Hospice.
