Obituary of Nancy Storm Sams

COLUMBIA-Memorial services for Nancy Storm Sams, 74 of Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the funeral home. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home. Inurnment services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 in Old St. Andrews Church Cemetery, 2604 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414. Mrs. Sams passed away after a long battle with Parkinson on Sunday, August 24, 2014. She was the wife of the late James G. Sams, Jr. She was born February 15, 1940 in Hanover, PA to the late R. Gregory and Mary Markel Storm. A resident of Columbia since 1971, Mrs. Sams worked for many years for State Farm Insurance and later volunteered as a docent with the SC State Museum. She was an avid bridge player and loved to play many forms of dice and card games. In addition, she took time to crochet baby blankets and Christmas ornaments for family and friends. Mrs. Sams also loved the time she spent with family and friends at family property located in the Low Country. She is predeceased by her brother, Simon G. Storm. She is survived by her sons, James G. Sams, III (wife Teresa) of Cary, NC, Gregory S. Sams of Hollywood, SC, David T. Sams (wife Cathy) of Irmo, SC; a daughter, Doris S. Coleman (husband Tony) of Batesburg, SC; grandchildren, Beth, Allison, Taylor, Sarah and Carter; step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Coleman (wife Keely), Breana Hernandez (husband Gonzalo) and a great-grandson, Gonzalo Anthony Hernandez; sisters; Janet Witta (husband Herb) of PA, Betty Storm of DE, Donna Bunty of MD, Jane Leuty of AZ, Evy Quigley of PA; brother Guy Storm (wife Nancy) of PA and many family and friends.
