Obituary of James Glen Berry

Hopkins-James "Toney" Glen Berry, Sr., 79, of Hopkins, went home to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep, on Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home. Born in Saltville, VA on January 16, 1935 he was the son of the late John Henry and Hazel (Cumbo) Berry. Toney worked in construction (self-employed, Berry's Drywall) for more than 27 years. He later drove for Fed-ex/Werner long distance trucking for more than 19 years. In May of 2006 he was awarded the Safety Driving Trophy for safely driving 1 million miles without an accident or incident. He was a member of East Columbia P. H. Church and was active as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Sims, three brothers, Dave, Wallace and JC Berry. He is survived by his wife, Coralene James Berry, whom he married on March 4, 1953. He is also survived by two sons, James Glen Berry, Jr., and David Wendell Berry; two daughters,, Patricia Ann Berry and Toni Lynn Costenbader (Glenn); four grandsons, Sean, Joshua, Butter and Jesse Berry; granddaughter, Victoria Davis; great grandchildren, Samantha, Dylan, Jenna, Peanut, Jarrett and Ellie; and one great great granddaughter, Eden. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at East Columbia P. H. Church, 1213 Hazelwood Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Reverends Robert and Hugh Ward officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
