Obituary of Alleen Horton Hyatt

West Columbia - Alleen H. Hyatt entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Born in Cherokee County on July 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Julius A. and LuElla McGraw Horton and the widow of James H. Hyatt. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church West Columbia, 400 State Street conducted by Reverend Bill Drees. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Alleen moved to Columbia after graduating from Gaffney High School in 1941. She worked at the Columbia Army Air Base and later Ft. Jackson. Alleen went to work for her sister, Wilma and her husband Bill Kinard, at State Machinery Company as a secretary and then was employed at Amick Equipment Company where she retired in 1990. In 1949, Alleen married Jim Hyatt and they shared a happy life together until his death in 1970. Alleen was a faithful member of First Baptist Church West Columbia. She made a decision to trust in Jesus as a young girl attending Cherokee Creek Baptist Church and her faith never wavered. She will be remembered for her service as a Sunday School teacher for the Youth girls as well as a teacher for two ladies classes. Alleen was a member of Best Yet to Come, Jubilant Singers, and the WMU. Alleen was a member of the Fashion Rose Garden Club, Woman's Club of West Columbia, Golden Friendship Club, and the Friday Night Dance Group at the Lourie Center. After her retirement, she was a volunteer at God's Helping Hands and served 20 years as a volunteer at Lexington Medical Center. Alleen is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Hite and Brenda Hyatt; Sister, Doris Blackwell; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, were her parents; husband; son-in-law, Herman Hite; sisters, Wilma Lynch, Myrtle Byars, Bernice Harkey, Eunice Horton; brothers, Elwyn Horton, Melvin Horton, and William Horton. Honorary pallbearers are members of Naomi's Faithful Sunday School Class and New Discovery Class. Active pallbearers are nephews, Bobby Blackwell, Mike Blackwell, and Mike Perry and Gerald Baker, Lin House and Worth Rogers. The family expresses appreciation to Hospice Care of Tri-County for their support during our mother's final journey. The family requests that memorials be given to First Baptist Church West Columbia, P.O. Box 4898, West Columbia, SC 29171. Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."
