Juanita Dowd Lucas Bass West Columbia, SC A funeral service celebrating the life of Juanita Dowd Lucas Bass, 91, of West Columbia, SC will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Gantt Street Baptist Church, 2121 Gantt Street, Cayce, SC 29033 with interment to follow in Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaston, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. She was born in Lexington County, SC to the late Henry Dowd and Lillie Jumper Dowd. Ms. Bass was the owner and operator of the Congaree Dairy Bar. She was a faithful member of Gantt Street Baptist Church where she was also awarded "The Mother of the Year". Ms. Bass was predeceased by her first husband, C.D. "Dick" Lucas; her second husband, Henry Bass; three daughters, Patricia Lucas, Marilyn Dykes, and Irma Lucas Hudson; a sister, Margaret Pound; her brothers, Greg Dowd, John Henry Dowd, and Irvin Dowd. Those left to cherish her beautiful memories are her daughters, Annette Lucas Almond and Glenda Amick (John); a step-daughter, Iris Roland; two sisters, Lizzie Mae Spradley and Louise Spradley; 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 5 great, great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
