Obituary of John Marshall Bowles

Funeral service for John Marshall Bowles, Jr, 95, of Cayce, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033. Dr. Tommy Pillow will officiate. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 7, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the family residence, 603 North Eden Drive, Cayce, SC 29033. Mr. Bowles passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He was born in Giles County, VA to the late Eva Ellen Meredith and John Marshall Bowles. He was the husband of the late Pauline J. Bowles. He served his country honorably in the South Carolina National Guard, and retired from Colonial Life Insurance Company after many years of dedicated service. John was a dedicated and active member of State Street Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are his sisters, Ellen Snidow, Janet Robinson, Josephine Bestwick, Phyllis Niday, Nancy Falls, Margaret Higgenbothan and Jean Caldwell; brothers, Terry Bowles and Bob Bowles; grandchildren, Brad Howey of Rock Hill, SC, Lauren Harring of Charlotte, NC and Jonathan Bowles of Lexington, SC; great grandchildren, Meredith Howey, Mary Marshall Howey and Pace Howey. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Vicki Bowles of Lexington. In addition to his parents and his wife of many years, he was predeceased by his son, John Bowles, III; daughter, Bonita Howey; and three brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
