Obituary of Harry Lockman

West Columbia - On September 3, 2014 Mr. Lockman met his Lord and Savior face to face. A home going service celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Gaston First Baptist Church. Gene Rowell and Reverend Larry Harrison will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Lockman was born in Spartanburg, SC on June 9, 1930, the son of Mr. Elmer Ellsworth and Mrs. Charlotte Corn Lockman. Mr. Lockman was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS degree in Business Administration. Mr. Lockman served in the South Carolina Air National Guard for 37 years before retiring and working in the public sector with Wilbur Smith Associates for 11 years. Throughout his business career, Mr. Lockman was involved in his church and community. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Gaston Water System. He was elected on May 4, 1966 as one of the original five Board of Directors for the Water District. In 1979 he was elected to the Gaston Town Council on which he served until 2004. He also served as a deacon, treasurer, and chairman of the building committee of Gaston First Baptist Church of which he is a member. He was also a Sunday School teacher, Training Union Director and choir member. Mr. Lockman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Lockman; children, Julie Lockman Bridges of West Columbia and Harry Ellsworth Lockman, Jr. (Gail) of Columbia; grandchildren, William Harry Lockman and Naomi Gwendolyn Bridges; brother, John H. Lockman (Ann) of West Columbia; and sister, Margaret Harper of Long Island, NY.
