Obituary of Charlie Eugene Kirton

Charlie Eugene Kirton passed away on September 8, 2014 in Elgin, SC. Born May 4, 1946, he was a son of the late Joseph Stephen and Hessie (Etheridge) Kirton. Mr. Kirton resided in the Columbia area for more than 50 years. Charlie was employed and retired from Carolina Door in Columbia, and was also an avid hunter and member of the Wateree Hunt Club. He had a love for water and could often be found spending his time in the Creeks at Murrells Inlet or out on Lake Murray. Mr. Kirton had many hobbies but will forever be known for his love of boiling and selling peanuts, and was recognized by his friends and the community as the "Peanut Man." In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Kirton; brother, T.J. Kirton; as well as his son, Robert Stephen Kirton. He is survived by his children, Donna Kirton Carter (Ron) and James Brian Kirton (Tracy); daughter-in-law, Tasha Kirton; Grandchildren, Michaela, Cody, Brandon, Stevie, Briana, Mattison and Megan; step-grandchild, Brittany Carter; brothers, Joseph (Pam) and James Kirton (Jennie); sisters, Melda Morris, Lois Hall and Katie Wheeler; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will be receiving friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
