Obituary of Dorothy McCullough Spurlock

LEXINGTON - A funeral service for Dorothy "Momma Dot" Spurlock, 87, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 22, 2014 at Round Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Don Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Mrs. Spurlock went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 19, 2014. Mrs. Spurlock, known as "Momma Dot", was born in Saluda, SC to the late Willie McCullough and Annie Lee Davis. She retired from Bell South as a Group Chief Operator, and was an active member of Round Hill Baptist Church. Momma Dot was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord. She also loved her large family, and her church. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, shopping and dining out. She had a beautiful smile, and never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone into her home, and enjoyed caring for others through many years of ministering the bereaved at her church. She was an active member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers, and enjoyed their monthly luncheons. Her favorite color was red, and she was known far and wide for her trips around town in her red Thunderbird. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Smith (Carroll) of Lexington, Sylvia Griggs (Richard) of Leesville; son, Jerry Spurlock (Jenny) of Batesburg; sister Carolyn Langdon (Richard) of Lexington. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and a large and loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 43 years, Lone Marion Spurlock; 1 sister and 3 brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Round Hill Baptist Church, 230 Persimmon Lane, Lexington, SC 29072.
