Obituary of Willie Vance Hicks

Mrs. Willie Vance Hicks, 85, of Horrell Hill, SC, entered into rest, Monday, September 29, 2014 at Springdale Healthcare Center. Born Wednesday, May 29, 1929 in Latta, SC she was a daughter of the late Blondon McVance and Venetia (Dove) Berry. A member of Horrell Hill Baptist Church, Horrell Hill, she was a Sunday School Teacher, and also served as President and Treasurer for the Sarah Moore Ladies Circle. She was a baker for the congregation and her community and was also known as the "Cookie Lady" throughout Horrell Hill. Mrs. Hicks was a beloved mother and grandmother, affectionately known as "YaYa," and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband of more than 35 years, Bobby Hicks, Sr.; son, Bobby Hicks, Jr; as well as a sister, Elizabeth B. Black. She is survived by her sons, Bill Hicks (Carol) and Benny Hicks (Carol); daughter, Shirley Clark (Charles); four grandchildren, Jason (Amanda), Kelly, Justin and Kristin (Ben); three great grandchildren, Logan, Cooper and Colin; sister, Tempsey Gore (Frankie); as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Horrell Hill Baptist Church, 920 Horrell Hill Road, Hopkins, SC 29061, with Reverends Randy Moore and Glenn Frye officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209.
