Obituary of Anna Cozzolino Eargle

Anna Eargle Columbia- A funeral service celebrating the life of Anna Cozzolino Eargle, 93, of Columbia will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 with Reverend R. L. Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 pm until the hour of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be sent to www.Thompsonfuneral.com. Mrs. Eargle died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 2, 2014. She was born on April 6, 1921 to the late Giuseppe Cozzolino and Silvia Cocozza Cozzolino of Portici, Italy. She was the eldest of their six children. She grew up in Portici and after World War II went to work in Trieste, Italy where she met the love of her life, James Marion Eargle, whom she married on September 30, 1951. After their wedding Mr. Eargle, a soldier in the US Army, was sent to Korea, and Mrs. Eargle moved to Columbia, SC. She accompanied her husband during his assignments to New Mexico, Texas and Germany and lived in Columbia during his two tours of duty in Vietnam; they permanently retired to Columbia in 1973. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years, James, who died on December 31, 2012; her cherished son, James Joseph Eargle, who died on August 29, 2014; and her siblings, Tina, Olga, Anthony, and Maria. Surviving are her loving daughter and son-in-law, Estelle and Michael May of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren, including Patrick Way (Jenny), Silvia Smith (Nick), Stephen May (Dorothy), Brian May (Christy), and Mark May; four great-grandchildren, including Isaac, Samuel and Nathan Smith and Felix Way; sister Giuseppina Cozzolino; and many other relatives and friends, who will miss her dearly. Her family is very grateful to the staff of Palmetto Health Private Services and Palmetto Health Hospice who loving and compassionately cared for Anna.
