Obituary of Charles Paul Wessinger

Lexington - Funeral services for Charles Paul Wessinger will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. David Lutheran Church of West Columbia. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Paul passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014. He was born on February 14, 1958 to Miriam H. Wessinger and the late Ernest Ralph Wessinger, Sr. Paul graduated from Clemson University in 1980, with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Education. During his years at Clemson, he was a student football manager. After graduation, Paul worked as the Assistant Equipment Manager at Clemson. He was later self-employed, worked for Lexington Medical Center, and the State of South Carolina, where he retired from the South Carolina Fire Academy. Paul was a member of St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia where he served as a council member, a Sunday School teacher, a cook for special events, and Boy Scout leader of Troop 340. He was a loyal Clemson supporter for more than 50 years. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by his mother; wife of 31 years, Sylvia J. Wessinger; children, Bryan Wessinger of Sumter and Gina Wessinger of the home; brothers, Henry (Shirley) Wessinger of Lexington, Ralph (Mary Helen) Wessinger of Spartanburg, and David Wessinger of Seneca; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. David Boy Scout Troop 340, or the Kitchen Renovation Fund in care of St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. Davids Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
