Obituary of Mattie R. Burbage

Cayce - Mattie R. Burbage, 105, of Cayce, passed away at Agape' Senior Care in West Columbia on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Congaree Presbyterian Church with Pastor John White and Agape's Chaplin Chong officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mattie R. Burbage was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on June 8, 1909 to the late Mary Jane Easterling Rast and Jacob A. Rast. She lived in Aruba from 1935 until 1962 and then she settled in Cayce, SC where she was a member of the Edenwood Garden Club for many years. She loved arts and crafts and she liked to knit and crochet many things especially afghans and scarves. She was a member of Congaree Presbyterian Church since 1962. In addition to her parents, Mattie was predeceased by her husband Vance C. Burbage; son, Robert "Bob" Burbage; sisters, Ethel Reynolds, Lucille Mims, Hazel Price and Thelma Roberson; and brothers, Alva, Harry, Marion and James "Bubba" Rast. She is survived by her sons, Roy (Peggy) Burbage of Lexington, Bill Burbage of Cayce and Thomas "Tom" Burbage of Columbia; grandchildren, Robert (Jan) Burbage, Donna (Ken) Chambley, William Vance (Cecelia) Burbage, Becky Jean (John) Baird, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Congaree Presbyterian Church, 1221 Lafayette Ave, Cayce, SC 29033.
