Obituary of Sadie Butler Moody

Columbia - A funeral service for Sadie Butler Moody, 95, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 6, 2104 at Rosewood Baptist Church, 2940 Rosewood Drive, Columbia, SC 29205. Reverend Bob Morgan will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Mrs. Moody died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. Born in Dillon, she was the daughter of the late William Riley and Mary Simpson Butler. She had retired from several careers, including 23 years with the South Carolina Department of Public Welfare, and 10 years with Bank of America. She also worked for the architectural firm of Lyles, Bissett, Carlyle and Wolfe. She was very active in her faith as well, having worked for the SC Baptist Convention in the Women's Missionary Union and the Columbia Metro Baptist Association. She began attending Rosewood Baptist Church in 1964, and devoted over 30 years to her church in positions as Church Secretary and Director for the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the "Young at Heart" Senior Adult Activity group. She is survived by her son, Gabriel E. Gist of Lexington, 3 nieces and 3 nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gabriel Gist, Sr., her second husband, Carlos Moody. She was also predeceased by her daughters, Virginia Elizabeth Moody and Deborah Jane Randall; brothers Hickman and Joe Butler and sister Polly Moody.
