Obituary of Agnes Paka Akau Young

Columbia - Agnes Paka Akau Young, 80, of Columbia, joined our heavenly Father, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Born Sunday, February 25, 1934 in Honolulu, HI, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lucille (Kau) Akau. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Young's joy in life was surrounding herself with the people she loved the most, her family and her four-legged companions, Noodles and JoJo. In addition to her parents and four siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Young, Jr., with whom she shared a union of more than 52 years. The couple, along with their children, traveled the world during Mr. Young's military career, which afforded them the opportunity to form a special bond with each other and their family. She was also preceded in death by her son, John P. Young; grandson, Jonathan Young-Williams; daughters, Muriel K. Young and Diana H. Nichols. Mrs. Young is survived by her brother, Samuel K. Akau; children, Doreen Putnal (Charles), Cheryl Samide, Nina Young-Williams (David), Linda Young-Baggott (Todd), Christina Orellana (Miguel) and Karen Sauer; grandchildren, Stephen Nichols, Richard Nichols (Amber), John Samide (Chelsey), Desiree Samide (Sherron Free), Jamie Putnal, Joshua Putnal (Stephanie Gregory), Robert Young-Williams (Tiffany Wagner), James Young-Williams and Malia Young-Williams; as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the funeral home.
