Obituary of Paul Lavaughn Corbitt

West Columbia - Paul Lavaughn Corbitt, 76, of West Columbia, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Oakwood Baptist Church, 3520 Mineral Springs Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29073. Burial will be private. Reverend Grady Parker will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Corbitt was born on February 1, 1938 to the late R.J. and Pauline Corbitt. Mr. Corbitt was an Air Force Veteran and the former proprietor and second generation owner of Corbitt's Meat Market. He was considered "the best fisherman in the Midlands" and he enjoyed swapping fish stories with his many friends. He was strong-willed and a good provider for his family. Mr. Corbitt is survived by his son, Brice Corbitt (Betty K.) of West Columbia; grandchildren, Shanna Farrar (Tim) and Brandon Corbitt (Krista); great-grandchildren, Matthew Whetsell, Dalton Thomas, Tim Farrar, Jr. and Blake Frye; nephew, Corky Corbitt (Jerry); former wife, Beverly Corbitt, and a sister-in-law, Jean Cain. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and half-brothers, Alton Corbitt and Robert and Bill Cain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Ste. 301, Cayce, SC 29033. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the 3rd floor of Lexington Medical Center for their loving and attentive care.
