Obituary of Beverley R Chandler

Columbia-Beverley R. Chandler, 88, of Columbia, entered into rest, Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Wildewood Downs Nursing and Rehabilitation. The third of six children, she was born Wednesday, April 21, 1926 in Bellefonte, PA, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Spotts) Rote. She retired from the Trust Department at Mid-State Bank, Bellefonte, PA, after more than 25 years of service. Following retirement she and her husband moved to Columbia, in 1978. Her love of family and strong Christian faith were her most fundamental values. She was surrounded and celebrated by her family and her church during her life. She participated faithfully in her church and was a choir member for over 30 years. She was elected 2011 Woman of the Year at Bethel United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Belle Dent Circle and the JOY Sunday School Class. One of her favorite pastimes was sewing baby blankets for Birthright, and her prayer was that each child wrapped in one of her blankets would become a child of God. Her favorite trip was to the Holy Land in 1996, where she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. With a sharp mind, the brightest eyes, and most loving heart, her gamesmanship whether cards or dominoes with her grandchildren or bingo with friends, was only exceeded by her strong competitive, but gentle, spirit. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband of more than 65 years, Charles W. "Tink" Chandler; two sisters, Edna Witmer and Phyllis Martin, both of Bellefonte, PA. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her daughter, Pamela Chandler Cohen (Dennis), Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Angela Hawkins, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Chad Dando (Ashley), Beaufort, SC, Colby Archer (Ray), Lexington, KY and Jeremy Cohen (Wendy), Hampton, VA; two sisters, Kathryn Monsell, of Bellefonte, PA and Grayce Amick, State College, PA; brother, Donald Rote, Boalsburg, PA; and eight great grandchildren. The family deeply appreciates the care and support of the staff at Wildewood Downs. "Rather than mourn the absence of the flame, let us celebrate how brightly it glowed." Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either, the Bethel United Methodist Church, Music Fund, 4600 Daniel Drive, Columbia, SC 29206; or to the Carolina Wildlife Care, Inc., 5551 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
