Obituary of James Stuart Rawls

Columbia - James Stuart Rawls, III, 62, passed away on December 23, 2014. Stuart was a lifelong resident of Columbia, SC, growing up in the Shandon and Lake Katherine areas. He was the son of the late James, Jr., and Flemma (Miller) Rawls. Although retired at the time of his death, Stuart had a long and enjoyable career in commercial contracting. He will forever be remembered for his love of the South Carolina Gamecocks and his contagious sense of humor. Before his health declined, Stuart enjoyed golfing and fishing with his family and friends. In more recent years Stuart has enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He routinely looked forward to his daily dose of The State newspaper, often finding special articles to share with family members and friends. He found comfort staying close to home with family and friends and enjoyed his news programs and game shows, such as Jeopardy, while also rarely missing an opportunity to watch Andy Griffith or Matlock reruns. Stuart was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where his parents were charter members. He is survived by his beloved children, Paula Rawls and Jay Rawls (Ashley); sister, Terry Rawls Harth; as well as his ex-wife and friend Shirley Rawls.
