Obituary of Charles Alfred Davis

Sandy Run - Mr. Charles A. Davis, 89, of Sandy Run and Lexington died at his home in Sandy Run on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Born February 19, 1925 in Anderson County, he was one of 13 children of the late James Berkley and Mary Grace Kindley Davis. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Inge; son, Charles Richard; daughters, Monica (Terry) Natschke and Amelia Davis; Granddaughters, Allison (Anthony) Papadopoulos, Noelle (Chris) Burnett and Jennifer Davis Hile; Grandsons, Chris (Thuy) and Jason Holland; Great Grandson, Demetrios; Great Granddaughters, Lillie and Olivia; Brothers, Kindley (Ruby) and Shaw (Alice); sisters, Aliene Moore, Doreen Henderson, Greta Jackson, and Linda (Glenn) Whitmire; numerous nephews, nieces, their children and longtime friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Robinson, Abigail King; brothers, Alvin, Edwin, David and Ramsey Davis; brothers-in-law, James Jackson, Woody Henderson and Leonard Robinson; sister-in-Law, Gloria Davis and nephew Tommy Henderson. Mr. Davis was a World War II Veteran, having served in the 1269th Engineer Combat Battalion of Patton's 7th US Army. He was the founder of Triangle City, having created the complex out of swampland. He and his wife, Inge, built and opened the first Zesto in West Columbia in 1949. After earning his Juris Doctorate, Mr. Davis went on to practice Law. In later years he devoted his time to operating his tractors, farming, planting and enhancing the natural environment he loved so much in Sandy Run. He cherished all nature and animals, especially his "babies" (dogs). He left very big shoes to fill and will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the medical staff and doctors for their assistance with very special thanks to the Amedisys nurses and therapist for their concern and loving care. Special thanks also to "Dr. Jim" Dacus for his attention and guidance these past months. In addition the family would like to express the utmost appreciation to nephew Eric Davis for his extraordinary efforts over a lengthy period of time. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel of Lexington with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.
