Obituary of Wanda Hamilton

Wanda Gay Hamilton, 68, of Eastover, South Carolina passed away January 13, 2015 at Providence Hospital Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on September 28, 1946 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Marion and Dorothy Brown. Wanda was a happy and outgoing person loved by all. She attended the East Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a very active member. Even after being confined to her own bed, Wanda would send cards to the sick through the church's Trees of Righteousness Program. She was a great cook and baker, generous and kind, and there was always room at her table for one more. Wanda loved to sing and enjoyed the old hymns and gospel songs. She was a great mom, and raised her children by the seat of their pants. An avid crafter, she enjoyed ceramics, crossword puzzles, and would try any kind of craft. Always strong in her faith and believing "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me", Wanda was the first female to be duly appointed and commissioned as a Notary Public in South Carolina. Wanda most loved her family, she cherished the times she could gather the family at Christmas, birthdays, and holidays. The love she gave and received from her family will never be forgotten. Wanda is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Larry Charles Hamilton, Sr. of Eastover SC, sons; James Hamilton (Elizabeth) of Newport News VA, Larry Hamilton, Jr. of Atlanta GA, Jeffrey Hamilton (Nancy) of Blythewood SC, daughters; Signe Dixon of Charleston SC, Dorothy Hill (David) of Atlanta GA, brothers; Richard Brown (Donna) of Terre Haute IN, and Lawrence Brown of Sumter SC, and sister; Myrna Brown of Terre Haute IN. Wanda is also survived by her grandchildren; John Hamilton of Sumter SC, Kristin Hamilton of Blythewood SC, Christopher Franks of Monterrey CA, Jennifer Craddock of Orlando FL, Lowell Dixon of Charleston SC, Zachary Hamilton of Florence SC, Damon Walter of Eastover SC, Nikki Hamilton of Sumter SC, Danny Hamilton of Sumter SC, Rane Hill of Atlanta GA, Noah Hill of Atlanta GA, Victoria Hill of Atlanta GA, and Caleb Hamilton-Glover of Sumter SC. Wanda also leaves behind four great grandchildren; John Hamilton, Jr., Calvin Franks, Malachi Dixon, Squirt Craddock, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wanda was predeceased by a brother; Keith Brown and a sister; Eileen Henson. The family will receive friends at Thompsons Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be at East Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1213 Hazelwood Drive, Columbia, SC 29209 on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11 AM with the Reverend Robert Ward officiating. Interment will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia SC, 29229 following the service. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
