Obituary of Mabel Whittle Dukes

Mabel "Rokki" Whittle Dukes, 75, of Cayce, South Carolina passed away January 30, 2015. She was born in Healing Springs, SC to the late Stanmore E. and Carrie (Gardner) Whittle. She is survived by her daughters, Shiela Dukes of West Columbia, Barbie Dukes Sturkie of West Columbia and Michelle Dukes Steele of Cayce; her sisters, Juanita Gable and Annie Ruth Lybrand; and her brother, Gardner Whittle. She leaves her grandchildren, Amanda R. and Adam Phillips, Joshua Smoak Sturkie and Jessica Sturkie; and a Great Grandson, John Smoak Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Smoak Dukes, Jr. of 56 years; her brothers, James and Hiram; and sister, Evelyn Cromer. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6- 7PM. A memorial service will be held at 7PM following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Palmetto Place Children's Shelter, PO Box 3395, Columbia, SC 29230.
