Obituary of Bobbie Jean Dawkins

Columbia - Bobbie Jean Dawkins, 79, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. The funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Beulah Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Bobbie Jean was born on September 5, 1935 in Rabon, AL to the late Mable Kelly Chafin Perry and Marion R. Chafin. After graduating from South Carolina Baptist Hospital Nursing School in 1955, she went on to work until retiring from the City of Columbia Health Department as a Registered Nurse. Being the caring person she was, she went to work for the Red Cross after retirement. Bobbie Jean will be remembered for her love she showed to all who came into her life, her continuous smile, strong faith and generous hugs. She will continue to live through us and is survived by her loving husband, Randy Dawkins; sons, Stephen F. Cook of Columbia and Christopher Cook (Tawnya) of Mobile, AL; stepsons, Neal Dawkins, Pat Dawkins, Philip Dawkins (Tammy) and Ken Dawkins (Michelle); stepdaughters, Elaine Love and Brenda Harmon; grandchildren, Amanda C. Rasmussen (Ray), Brandon Cook, Matthew Cook, Logan Cook, Emma Cook, Wesley Cook and 17 step grandchildren that she lovingly considered her own; and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Judith Kennedy (Roderick); Phillip Perry (Elaine); Charles Perry (Kelva); and Charmane Perry May. Mrs. Dawkins was preceded in death by her late husband, Henry "Dutch" Riley. Memorials may be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Building fund.
